RE your article "How much more urban vandalism?" in the August 16 issue, I fully support the opinions of Mr Connell.
He did, however, leave out the following buildings:
The Princess Hotel, a listed Porrit building.
The St Annes Hospital, left to the community by the Bannister Family.
The St Annes Hotel (illegally knocked down, the builders being fined).
And lastly the Majestic Hotel.
If the council had any brains it would have learned from the latter. However, as normal, it would appear that the council has sold out. Not even the blue buses were safe.
It is fortunate that other councils in the country are not the same or there would be no historic or interesting buildings in the land.
Having lived in St Annes all my life I have seen any building of note or interest knocked down and the town decline.
Other areas of the country that are thriving look after and find other uses for historic buildings and so improve things. Not so our council. Only property speculators appear to be thriving. Given that the Fylde is a relatively affluent area of the country it could be said that the council do a very bad job.
