IN his letter (August 24), Ray Honeyford shows only too clearly why we should refuse to accept his ideas that racial diversity can be a negative influence.
He starts with the relatively modest suggestion that "diversity in itself does not, inevitably, lead to society's enrichment". He then moves quickly down a very slippery slope, and concludes with a programme for racial harmony which would not be out of place in the manifesto of any far right organisation, determined to follow in the footsteps of its hero, Hitler.
We believe in the need to oppose the racism and fascism espoused by such parties as the BNP. It is therefore up to us to argue against the idea that cultural diversity is in any way unwelcome, particularly when such an idea leads so easily to racist conclusions.
Perhaps Ray Honeyford would like to visit Oldham on October 20 when he will see just how positive that cultural diversity can be during an anti-Nazi carnival organised by Oldham United Against Racism and the North West Region TUC. Further details about the event are available on 07905 327690.
