BURNLEY boss Stan Ternent is happy to see his side top of the league -- but there will be no resting on laurels.
The Clarets went into today's game against newly promoted Rotherham United riding high but there is plenty of work still to be done if they are to retain their standing says Ternent.
"I enjoy the progress that they are making, but still there is a long way to go," said the Clarets boss.
"We have got to look at our retention of possession, which could be better, our passing could improve, but we will improve as we go on through the season.
"There is work to be done but hopefully we will all keep learning all the way down the line."
And being top of the table ensures that the focus is sharp when it comes to growing and prospering.
"Now we are at the top the challenge is there," said Ternent.
"We'll see what happens, but we have taken 12 points from 15 and we have got to build on that start and try to stay there.
"We are creating chances and scoring goals, and that is something we have been looking out to do. "I like to see them playing with a chuckle in their boots, I want to see them play with no fear and express themselves.
"At the moment it is all coming off for us, but there will come a time where we lose three or four games, but having said that any side who beats us is going to have to be pretty good."
However, while Ternent is throwing down the gauntlet to his players to make more of what they have got, he is not about to take away the credit his players deserve for putting the club in the position we are in.
"I am really happy that the players are beginning to get the recognition they deserve," enthused Ternent.
"They have carried things on from the progress we made last season, and for some considerable time now.
"If I go right back to when I started at the club it would have been a miracle if we had won three games away on the trot -- it would have been a miracle if we had won three games on the trot with what I inherited. Since then we have made a lot of progress and the players are now well aware of one another's strengths.
"They are also very capable of adapting to different ways of playing.
"It has taken time but all the credit has to go to the players who have applied themselves and done well."
