BACUP are celebrating their second successive Transco Lancashire League title - and have no plans to hand over their mantle next summer.
A comprehensive seven-wicket win over Enfield had the champagne corks popping at Lanehead as even a dramatic last-ball win by East Lancashire at Nelson couldn't prevent Bacup retaining the championship by two points.
Professional Shaun Young finished the season with 1,004 runs and 94 wickets in the league and having agreed to return next season, Bacup are keen to stay on top.
"It would be nice to do it again. That would be fantastic and I can't see us changing anything. The club and the team has been fantastic all season. There's a great atmosphere here. If there wasn't, I wouldn't be coming back," said Young.
David Ormerod was the hero of the hour yesterday as his eight-wicket haul left Bacup needing just 72 to win.
But Young has played a massive part in the club's success after filling the considerable void left by the departure of fellow Australian Adam Dale.
"Adam helped us with that choice and we're pleased he endorsed him," said triumphant Bacup skipper Neal Wilkinson.
"We were expecting something like 900-1,000 runs and 80 wickets and he's surpassed that. He's a top-class performer. We are delighted to have him back next year when we will have the treble in our sights."
Young just missed out on the double of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets but insisted: "I'm not disappointed. It would have been a great milestone but it was more important the club and the team winning the league. It was nice to get 1,000 runs and the crowd gave me a good reception, and there's always next year.
"To win the league back-to-back is a great thing for the club. Adam Dale had a fantastic season last year and it was going to be tough (to match that). But I always had belief in my ability and the team's ability after watching them early on that we could do it."
