NELSON earned a replay in the FA Vase first qualifying round with a fighting display in the North East.
Mark Smith gave the Blues the lead after only three minutes and Kiko Rodriguez almost doubled their advantage two minutes later but Norton were let off the hook by his casual approach.
Despite their first half dominance, Nelson had only the one goal lead at the interval and Norton had the wind advantage in the second half and punished them with an equaliser after 63 minutes. Tony Roberts held off Mark Smith as he burst through and beat Mark Canning with a low shot.
Norton held the initiative but Nelson stood firm for the rest of the 90 minutes and the Blues reasserted themselves in the first period of extra time. Mick Molyneux crossed low for Andy Bannister to sidefoot home their second goal on 98 minutes.
But in the second period of extra time Danny Cobain scored Norton's second goal.
Molyneux's last minute header was ruled out for off side and the game goes to a replay on Wednesday evening at Victoria Park.
RESULT: NORTON AND STOCKTON...2 NELSON...2 (aet)
