DETECTIVES in Burnley are hoping to learn more this week about an explosive device which shook houses in the Gannow area.
The home-made device was inspected by Army bomb squad officers then taken away to a special unit in Kent, where it is being examined by incendiary experts.
Det Sgt Steve Earnshaw said: "We are hoping to get information back by the end of this week."
The explosion took place in a subway at the Gannow roundabout near to the M65 junction 10 slip road in the late evening of Wednesday, August 29.
The device was said to have gone off with a tremendous bang.
Ornaments on furniture in nearby houses were shaken and the emergency services received many phone calls.
No damage was caused, but police said anyone going through the subway at the time could have been seriously injured.
The 'bomb' was in a metal container about the size of a tea caddy. It may have contained explosive similar to the type found in commercial-size fireworks of the type which caused the death of a Burnley man in Duke Bar, Burnley.
DS Earnshaw said they were taking the matter seriously.
Previous appeals for information from the public has been disappointing. Anyone who can help police inquiries is asked to contact DC Dave Walker on 01282 472143, or ring Crimestoppers, free and in confidence, on 0800 555111.
