JD WETHERSPOON pubs throughout East Lancashire have joined forces with the non-party political campaign NO - which believes in keeping the pound - to call last orders on the single currency.
A new campaign launched by Tim Martin, chairman of the pub chain, will bring beer mats to the pubs for the first time featuring the 'let's get shot of it...' image on one side and key facts regarding the Euro on the other. It will also include posters, postcards addressed to Tony Blair, bumper stickers reading 'Keep your job - keep the pound' and a direct mail programme with a newsletter.
The idea of the campaign is to bring no's message to drinkers in the bars in a simple easy to follow way which presents facts about the Euro which will affect them and their families.
David Shepherd, acting manager of The Postal Order, Darwen Street, Blackburn, said: "This will provide a talking point for customers in the pub and hopefully spark a healthy debate which can only be a good thing.
"This issue doesn't seem to be being discussed by politicians and people are not aware of all the facts to decide whether they are for or against it."
