A SINGER from East Lancashire is set to become a big hit down under when one of her songs crashes into the Australian top ten.
Paule Van Wijngarden and her band Soda Club are currently flavour of the month among the Australian radio stations with their single Show Me.
And the singer, who teaches dance and vocal techniques at Burnley College, knew nothing about it.
Paule, who lives in Blackburn, said: "It's strange because I was about to leave the Soda Club project behind.
"I was at college when the record company phoned me to say it was doing really well.
"All last week was spent in London doing interviews for Australian radio."
Paule is no stranger to chart success. Last year she sang lead vocals with Bus Stop on the hit Kung Fu Fighting earning several appearances on Top of the Pops.
And with Soda Club she toured extensively with Steps and A1. Her success over here could be repeated if her record company -- Concept Records -- release Show Me over here.
She said: "If it was released over here I would have to become Soda Club and get in that mode again. That's not a bad thing but I had moved on from that and am doing other projects."
One of those projects is a band called OK Kola with Mark Day, the former guitarist of Manchester legends the Happy Mondays.
And then there's the day job to contend with.
Paule said: "I have only just started as a lecturer at the college. I had to give up something similar when Bus Stop took off and have only just gone back to teaching now. I'm not that hungry for fame and I really like teaching. The pupils think it is all a bit mad."
The Australia connection brings to mind instant comparisons with artists like Kylie Minogue which horrifies Paule.
She said: "I'm nothing like her. In the past I have been compared to Kate Bush which is not such a bad thing."
Australian radio stations say the single has been getting a lot of airplay and is expected to be a big hit when the charts are compiled later this week.
