SUPPORT for local carers was up by 18 per cent in the Ribble Valley last year thanks to the area's Crossroads organisation.
And the number of families helped by the organisation increased by six per cent, according to the Ribble Valley Crossroads retiring chairman Margaret Sutcliffe who was speaking at its annual meeting.
She added: "I would like to thank staff and members of the committee for their dedication to the work of Crossroads.
"Many families have commented on the invaluable support received from Crossroads in the area over the past 15 years."
Ribble Valley Mayor Coun Gwen Pye hosted the event and welcomed guest speaker Alison Thompson, chief executive of the National Association of Crossroads 'Caring for Carers'.
Alison said: "It's about time. Time to give to carers so they can have a break and time to start developing more services."
Tom McLean was appointed as chairman for the next two years and thanks were extended to Peter Masterson, who has been treasurer since 1996.
The new treasurer will be Donald Harrison.
Votes of thanks were given by Tom McLean and Margaret Sutcliffe.
