A DARWEN teenager who is suffering from cancer is set to go to Disneyland next year thanks to generous local people.
Cherie Lee Cox, 14, of Ellenshaw Close, suffers from a rare form of cancer and has to go to the Christie Hospital in Manchester for treatment.
Her aunt Angela Doonan who works at the Punch Hotel in the town has helped organise fund raising events for her.
The Punch Hotel put on a special night for Cherie and arranged a knockout pool, darts and dominoes competition on August 23. Mrs Doonan said landlord and landlady Anne and Alan Harle were 'absolutely fantastic' in putting on the event.
And Darwen companies also showed their generosity, with the Provident donating £100 and Argos donating an electronic keyboard to boost fundraising efforts.
The Borough Hotel and the Anchor pub also made donations and pubs in Blackburn also helped out, helper Margaret Eastwood and her friends raised £515 when they went to pubs in the town on August 25 asking for donations for Cherie.
In total Mrs Doonan managed to raise £1,240 and Thai boxing event in Wigan on August 31 organised by Cherie's dad Lee raised £1,500.
Mrs Doonan, of Sudell Road, said she wanted to thank everyone who had helped with Cherie's collection.
