NEIGHBOURHOOD Watch leaders have claimed a new scheme which makes the fridge the latest tool for the emergency services has proved a success beyond their wildest dreams.
The Datalink scheme involves people filling in a form containing vital information such as medication and medical conditions. The form is then stored in the fridge.
The scheme was unveiled during Neighbourhood Watch Week in June, when 5,000 of the canisters were dished out free.
But spokesman for Lancashire Neighbourhood Watch Albert Caville, said demand had outstripped supply to such an extent that they now needed funding for more.
Mr Caville said: "We have been overwhelmed with the demand, so much so that we are looking for funding for a second phase."
The canisters are being given out across Lancashire by groups such as Help the Aged, Age Concern and other voluntary groups.
Organisations wishing to help provide sponsorship should contact Albert Caville on 01254 722375.
