A PLUCKY pensioner left with a broken elbow after a 'callous' daylight attack today vowed "I won't let these thugs stop me going out."

Elsie Gorton,85, was thrown to the ground and suffered the fracture and bad bruising during the bag snatch.

She was walking along Marlton Avenue, Blackburn, when approached from behind by two men.

As they tried to snatch her handbag, their elderly victim was thrown to the ground, breaking her elbow and suffering bruising.

She was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary and is now recovering at her home in Branch Road, Blackburn.

The robbers fled with Elsie's gold-coloured handbag along an alleyway at the back of Kirby Road, across a football pitch and over waste ground behind Ewood Park stadium.

They were later seen in Uncle Jack's pub in Branch Road, Lower Darwen after the incident on August 27.

Elsie said: "I'm just trying to get my life back to normal at the moment. Even though I haven't really been out since the attack, I am determined that I will.

"I'm not going to crawl into a corner and let these people destroy my life because that would mean they had won. I won't let that happen.

"I just hope the police manage to get them as soon as possible to stop something like this happening to anybody else."

Detective Sergeant Paul Withers of Blackburn CID renewed his appeal for witnesses.

He said: "This was a particularly callous attack on a very elderly lady and we are keen to apprehend those responsible as quickly as possible.

"I'm sure the offenders will be well-known in the community and will have spoken about this incident.
