ROSSENDALE United moved to the top of UniBond Division One with a polished performance at hard-working Workington.
Jerome Fitzgerald and Craig Sargeson scored in each half as Rossendale kept up their unbeaten start to the season.
Despite Dale's 5-2 win against Farsley Celtic on Saturday, manager Jim McCluskie was not happy with the team's display but was delighted with the way they responded last night.
He said: "There were some very good performances out there and Steve Bird was outstanding.
"We had a chat after the game at the weekend and I am delighted with the way they have responded. Now we are top of the league and we are there on merit."
Dale started the game in positive mood but wasted too a few chances before Fitzgerald finally opened the scoring.
The impressive Steve Cunningham broke free down the right and his perfect cross was sided footed home by Fitzgerald at the far post.
Cunningham was again the provider for the second decisive goal with another right wing cross which was spectacularly volleyed home by Sargeson to take the striker's total to four in two games. McCluskie added: "It was good to see Craig score again.
"He'd waited a few games to get off the mark before his hat-trick on Saturday.
"But it was always a case of scoring that first goal and so it proved last night."
Rossendale's record since they were promoted as champions from the NWCL Division One last season is won five and drawn two of their seven games.
They remain unbeaten and are in FA Cup action this weekend when they welcome Guisborough Town to Dark Lane in the first qualifying round.
RESULT: WORKINGTON... 0 ROSSENDALE UNITED... 2
