Pilkington Recs 18 Orrell St James 26: THIS was a disappointing result for Recs who put a great deal of effort into this match and led 18-4 on 55 minutes, only to see the visitors finish strongly and snatch the win.
The only score of the first half came in the second minute following quick thinking from Alan Fletcher from the kick off, he drilled the ball in touch to claim advantage at the scrum. Three plays later, further good thinking from hooker Andy Fletcher saw him dive in to score from a play the ball, Fletcher converted.
Due to poor handling and a heavy penalty count against them, Recs spent most of this half defending, but their line held firm. Keiron Lacey, Mark Forber, Stuart Mansfield and Neil Morris were particularly busy in this department.
Recs were unlucky on 30 minutes when a 'line ball' pass, which put Darren Haigh in for a try was pulled back as a forward pass, following breaks from Forber and Rees.
Four minutes after the restart Turner scored for Orrell to reduce the deficit to two points. But from the kick off Recs replied instantly, as Rees collected a high ball and two tackles later he was back in play driving through to score. Fletcher converted.
On ten minutes Recs were in again through a great individual score from Fletcher. He chipped through the defensive line, gathered the ball and rounded the full-back to score from 40 metres out. His goal gave Recs an impressive looking 18-4 lead.
With the home defence as well as that of the visitors, visibly tiring, Orrell commenced their fight back on 56 minutes through a try from Neil Kay.
Recs lead was down to just two points five minutes later as second row man Tuffs dummied through to cross wide out. The homesters appeared to be weathering the storm until four minutes from time as Tuffs scored an identical try to put his side in front for the first time.
A further Orrell score at the death gave the scoreline a false impression. Recs although disappointed with the outcome of the game can take consolation from their efforts in this game. The St Helens Roofing man of the match award went to the tireless Keiron Lacey. The Jaxx Caf Bar players award went to Alan Fletcher. Big contributions also came from Mansfield, Forber, Rees, Morris and Bailey.

Fletcher's penalty goal increased the lead to 16-0. Centre Andy Kilmurray made a break and found supporting hooker Andy Fairhust who scored by the posts. Fletcher tagged on the conversion.
And Recs win was rounded off when Kilmurray collected a loose ball in midfield and raced 60 yards to score. Fletcher converted. Heath grabbed a consolation when centre Jay Gavin crossed.
