SPEEDING drivers are being offered the chance to attend a Speed Awareness course as an alternative to fixed penalties and points on their licence.
Developed by Lancashire County Council, the scheme is being rolled out across the county this months. The course, which combines theory and practical elements, aims to permanently change driver's behaviour. Linda Sanderson of the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety said: "Offering the public an alternative to prosecution will highlight that we recognise the need for an intensive education programme to bring the speeds of the motoring public down. Speeding is a major cause of road casualties."
