IN response to D.C. Morecambe's letter... what a lovely idea. An Eden project in place of Bubbles.

Unfortunately even with a grant I am afraid it would cost the ratepayers too much to uphold.

Winged World at Heysham was a similar project on a much smaller scale but unfortunately too expensive to heat in the winter and was abandoned.

No. It's true something was done for the children. Bubbles was built for children and should be replaced by something for them.

There are plenty of play parks for "Tweenies", it's time to make something for juniors and young teenagers, a skating rink sounds ideal.

It would be a great attraction because nearly all children love to skate. It would be an all year round event, with certain afternoons and early evenings reserved for younger children, and later evenings for older teenagers etc.

Seating could be provided for spectators and with music etc would be a pleasant place for visitors on sunny days to watch the children enjoy themselves. I am sure that one of the promenade ice cream shops would willingly provide a kiosk for refreshments etc.

Unfortunately it would have to be insured which could be costly, but I doubt it would be as expensive as heating and insuring Bubbles.

And aren't our children worth it?

They are crying out for somewhere to go that is not too expensive.
