BURNLEY'S second string ended up hanging on for a point after throwing away a two goal lead at Turf Moor last night in the Avon Insurance Premier Division.
A far post header from Earl Davis gave the Clarets a first half lead that skipper Lennie Johnrose doubled from the spot three minutes after the break.
That should have been game over but a slip on the rain soaked surface by experienced defender Mitchell Thomas allowed Wrexham's Hector Sam to score a fine solo goal 11 minutes from time.
Thomas then gave away a free kick on the edge of the box and Martyn Chalk's deflected free kick earned Joey Jones' side a draw.
Burnley enjoyed plenty of possession throughout the night but too often lacked the ability to find the final ball. On the right wing Mark Rasmussen failed to build on a lively start and striker Tony Ellis was replaced at the break after being hit by a stern challenge from behind.
There may be more concern for Clarets' boss Stan Ternent as young goalkeeper Luigi Cennamo, who has been Nik Michopoulos's understudy this season, struggled all night with a thigh strain.
He was unable to kick from goal relying on long throws and defenders helping him out with goal kicks.
Should he be deemed unfit to sit on the bench against Walsall on Saturday Ternent would have to turn to untried teenager James Salisbury.
RESULT: BURNLEY RESERVES...2 WREXHAM RESERVES...2
Burnley: Cennamo; McGregor, E Davis, Thomas, Scott; Rasmussen, Mullin, Pilkington, Johnrose; Ellis (O'Neill), Shandran. Subs (not used) Waine, Salisbury, Leeson, Fogarty.
