COLIN Potts sealed the points for City in the dying seconds as Lancaster maintained their unbeaten record this season.
It could have been much worse for Lancaster as with seconds remaining and the score at 3-2 in City's favour, Glen Robson was clean through on Mark Thornley. But Thornley stood up well to Robson who forced the number nine wide, and the chance had gone.
As the ball was cleared upfield it bounced wickedly over Spartans' keeper Paul Gilmore for Potts to tap-in.
It was Blyth who broke the deadlock when on five minutes Gary Innes' ball into the City box found Robson with time and space to fire home.
The equaliser came 10 minutes later when Potts' pinpoint cross was met by the head of Andy Whittaker.
The crowd had to wait until the hour mark for City to take the lead when Whittaker headed home again this time from an Andy Lyons corner, despite the valiant attempts from the Blyth defence.
With 20 minutes to go Lancaster thought they had the game sewn up when Lee Clitheroe finished easily inside the six yard box after Brian Welch's shot smashed against the bar and Blyth failed to clear.
But the game was far from over when Blyth substitute Craig Skelton lifted over Thornley to give the crowd a nailbiting finale.
However City hung on for three points, and so far, are looking good for promotion, but after recent world events, we have to remember that it is only football.
RESULT: Lancaster 4 Blyth Spartans 2
