CHURCH goers from different denominations in Blackburn want friends and neighbours to explore the meaning of life over supper in an attempt to boost dwindling congregations.
Members of Blackburn Community Church, Elim Pentecostal Church, St Aidens Church, Zion Pentecostal Church and Leamington Road Baptist Church, all Blackburn, are promoting a course called Alpha. It is described a practical and up to date introduction to the Christian faith. It takes one session a week, usually an evening, over 10 weeks.
Supper parties are being staged in churches, homes and halls in the town this month. Interest is expected to be boosted by the ITV programme Alpha -- will it change their lives? a 10 part series presented by Sir David Frost, which is being broadcast on Sunday nights.
Bill Smith of Leamington Road Baptist Church said: "Alpha is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to check out the Christian faith, and look for the answers to the big questions."
