STUDENTS will be pumping iron this term in a new health and fitness suite at an independent Fylde school.
Over the summer the gym in the King Edward building at King Edward VII and Queen Mary school in Lytham has been transformed into a fitness centre including rowing machines and power joggers to encourage students into a healthier lifestyle.
Head girl Jo Stephenson of Heeley Road, St Annes, said: "I am sure it will appeal to a lot of students.
"We have a lot of school teams in rugby and hockey, and for them, fitness is essential. This also provides a chance for individuals to keep in shape." Phil Rudd, games teacher, added: "We're delighted with this new facility and very grateful both to our Parents' Association and to Leisure Parcs for providing the funds for it. I am sure that it will be a great aid to all our students in maintaining a healthy life style."
The new suite was officially opened by Marc Etches, managing director of Leisure Parcs, which matched the funds raised by the school's Parents' Association.
