A CHARITY dedicated to research into joint replacements is £310 better off thanks to a caring bowls club.

Dugdale Bowling Club's 10th annual fund raiser was this year in aid of the Wishbone Trust -- and they celebrated with their best ever amount raised.

The competition attracted 32 club members who together donated 170 tombola prizes.

And while raising funds and awareness of the Wishbone Trust was the main objective of the day there was still the small matter of winning a bowls competition which was won by Muriel Brogden. The tournament was a round robin affair with competitors split into four groups of eight where each bowler played three matches.

The player with the best average was deemed the winner.

Muriel proved to be the best player on the day but was one of three to win all of their matches.

And in the end, she beat Cyril Shorrock in to second place by just one point.

Muriel beat Jackie Boardman 15-2, Sonia Smith 15-7 and Simon McGurty 15-8 to finish with an aggregate of plus 28. Cyril finished on plus 27 after victories against Bernard Walsh 15-10, Phyliss Armstrong 15-3 and Beryl Entwistle 15-5. The third player to finish with a 100 per cent record was Barbara Waring who beat Wendy Neville 15-4, Brian Woods 15-12 and her own mother Winnie Fish 15-13.

Alan Barry was fourth with plus 22 after winning two of his three matches.

Event organiser Frank Counsell said: "Yet again it was another successful fund raiser and I would like to thank all the club members who have supported the event.

"We have been running these events for charity for 10 years now and this is the best every response we have had in terms of raising funds."
