ANY teams who have rubbed the Sunday Memorial League up the wrong way in the past 16 years can bet they have been watched on a special spying mission by retiring president David Pratt.

So dedicated was David to the league he thought nothing of donning his mack and cap and running the rule over the league's bad boys to see what actions should be taken.

David was this week honoured for his commitment to the league which often went beyond the call of duty.

Secretary Harry Dewhurst, who presented David with a carriage clock, said: "David was a very hands on president and this presentation is a way of saying thank you to him.

"We did a lot for this league and that was underlined last season when he took up the vacant chairman's position at a moments notice.

"He sponsored a lot of cup competitions and you can count the number of meetings he missed in those 16 years on one hand.

"It is the end of a very enjoyable period."

It seems we sent the right snapper to cover a charity bowls tournament at the weekend.

For Dugdale Bowling Club hosted an event in aid of the Wishbone Trust which raises funds and awareness for joint replacements.

And photographer Pete Hartley, who himself has had a hip replacement, got a bit of inside information about the latest replacements available.

Event organiser Frank Counsell said: "I didn't not realise Pete had a hip replacement himself and he was very interested with all the latest information we had available on the day.

Some teams just turn up and play.

And when you are a seven-a-side team then sometimes you just turn up.

But not Witton Winter League side Swallowfield United.

The club, formed last season, has put together a structured plan which includes training sessions and professional coaching.

Team manager Mohammed Akram, who is an FA qualified coach, said: "We like to think we have a good set up here. We are looking for players who will play for the team and for their team-mates.

"I like to think that any player who joins us can improve their individual and team skills."

Any player, aged over 16, who would like to join Mohammed's mini football revolution should contact him on 07957 805232.

Akzo Nobel Red under 11s, who featured in Sport Extra last week, are looking for new players.
