NEW boys Burnley Wood won't have to wait too long for their first victory if this performance was anything to go by.
For they gave as good as they got against a well organised West End side who only sealed victory with three late strikes.
Burnley have put together a talented side but in the end it was a quartet of West End players who proved to be the difference between the two clubs.
Defender Anthony Fullton, midfieder and captain Carl Simpson, winger Tel Hartley and striker Chris Walker ultimately denied Burnley Wood a share of the points.
While it was Simpson, Hartley and Walker who shared the goals, Fullton was a rock at the back when Burnley threatened to get on top early in the second half.
The fact that the new boys got back on level terms twice was testimony to their fighting qualities.
West End took the lead through Walker but it was down to a wonderful piece of individual skill by Hartley.
His step-over and nutmeg completely bamboozled Nathan Dyster before his pin-point cross was swept home at the near post by Walker.
West End should have built on it but instead it was Burnley who roared back and fine build-up play by Chris Wilson and Michael Green ended with Callum Strurgeon flashing a shot just wide.
But it was a passage of play that was to result in a goal when Peter Davis was in the right place at the right time to drill the ball past Shane Tibb.
Danny Astin then forced a flying save out of Tibb as Burnley Wood looked to take a lead into the break.
Instead it was West End who regained the lead when Walker latched on to a fine through ball from Simpson and skipped around Simon Lampard to score.
However, Burnley continued to impress after the break and after John Lord thudded a shot against the bar, they were back on level terms when Davis flicked on a corner and Jordan Hosker looped a header in to the goal.
They should have gone on to take the lead when Green fired just over the bar before Astin forced another good save out of Tibb after more impressive work from Wilson.
However, West End stood firm and in the end their class rose to the surface.
Skipper Simpson put them back into the lead with a thumping 20 yard drive before Hartley cooly slotted home Michael Walne's excellent cross.
Walne's display deserved a goal and he came within an inch of getting it but his shot crashed against the post.
However the shot did not go to waste as Hartley fired home the loose ball.
