MOUNTAIN-biking took on a whole new meaning for Philip Hall.
The 36-year-old cyclist, of Dumers Lane, Radcliffe, raised £1,414 for Bury Hospice by using pedal power to tackle the mighty Pyrenees.
Mr Hall took part in the L'Etape Du Tour which is a one-day event over a stage of the most prestigious cycle race in the world, the Tour de France.
He completed the 90-mile route across the mountain range in seven hours and 52 minutes.
"It was harder than I expected, mainly because the weather was so atrocious, but it was a fantastic experience and I'm glad I did it," he said.
In fact, he enjoyed it so much he is already planning to do another sponsored cycle ride next year . . . across The Alps!
Mr Hall said: "I want to thank the members of Close, Bridge and Wesley methodist churches for their support and prayers, and also members of All Saints, Stand.
"Thanks also to Avecia and colleagues at Blackley for their generous support and a special thank you to my mum, Mrs Sheila Barnes, and Mrs Eva Gore for their efforts in spreading the word and reaping the harvest."
