Ideal Isberg 19, Leigh East 16 IF Leigh East could only stop beating themselves then they could be a real force to be reckoned with in the National Conference Premier Division.

They showed this in Saturday's performance against table-toppers Ideal Isberg. Not many teams will travel to Hull and come within three points of the Humbersiders.

But 25 minutes of madness in the first half allowed Ideal to soar into a 14-0 lead as they capitalised on East errors. Both sides shared the possession but by putting too much ball to ground, East were forced to defend for long spells with Ideal scoring two tries and three goals.

When East finally did start to settle, they showed just how good they can be. Michael Whiteside, who is developing into a top class forward, took the first drive from a penalty and after some neat work from Danny Kilshaw, Mick Redford scored with John Woods adding a superb touchline goal.

Ideal added a drop goal but only frantic tackling from the home side prevented Redford adding a second and the half closed at 15-6. Within three minutes of the restart it was 15-10 as Lee Wingfield put Woods in after good handling along the line.

Ideal scored their final points after 12 minutes but the rest of the half belonged to East.

More good handling resulted in a well-taken try from Simon Warhurst, Woods again goaling. Ideal were forced to pull out all the defensive stops to keep their unbeaten record intact.
