THE Mayor has been questioned at by police regarding an alleged brawl with his next-door neighbour.

Coun John Hilton and David Kenny, of Hazel Grove, in Golborne, were both interviewed at Leigh Police Station after an alleged assault.

Police have sent a file to the Crown Prosecution Service and who will then decide if prosecution proceedings should begin.

Chief Supt. Peter Owen said: "An incident occurred in the Golborne area of Wigan and an allegation of assault was received by the police which resulted in both parties being interviewed at Leigh Police Station.

"No one has been charged, bailed or reported for summons at this stage and an advice file will be sent to CPS for their decision."

A Wigan Council spokesman said: "This is a perfectly private affair and nothing to do with Wigan council. He is the mayor but he is also a private citizen."
