I READ with interest, the recent correspondence regarding the problems of pedestrians attempting to cross Sunny Bank Road in Unsworth.
There is obviously a problem with speeding motorists on this road, as there are road markings to assist police when they operate their speed checks.
So there must be a balancing of priorities in this situation. Either leave the road as it is, so that speedsters can be brought to book, or install various traffic-calming measures which would rob the powers-that-be of much-needed revenue from fines.
Talking of traffic-calming measures, on Randale Drive, Unsworth, which connects Sunnybank Road to Parr Lane, there are two mini-roundabouts and a road narrowing construction.
This road is nowhere near as busy as Sunnybank Road and local gossip has it that certain high-ranking councillors live in that area. Could that help to explain the installation of those measures?
WONDERING,
Unsworth.
