BURY Choral Society has its roots in the Bury Music Society , which was founded more than 150 years ago and continues to serve the cultural life of the borough through its regular performances, particularly in local churches.
The Bury Times critic has, in recent times, been kind enough to compliment us on our performances and, indeed, it is true that under the guidance of our music director, John Edwards, the reputation of the choir has improved considerably.
The distaff side of the choir has increased in the last couple of years, and with great benefit to the sound of choir. However, we are becoming increasingly short of men.
Might I therefore appeal to those "Men of Bury" who can raise a song in the bath to come forward and help us to redress the balance!
We have about 100 members from a 20-mile radius and meet on Tuesday evenings (7.30pm) in Holy Trinity schoolroom on Cecil Street, Bury. Our programme for the season includes the Mozart Requiem, Britten's Ceremony of Carols and Elgar's Apostles.
Interested people can attend any Tuesday or ring the secretary, Mrs June Bowker, on 01706 365465 for details.
JOHN MELLOWS,
vice-chairman,
Bury Choral Society.
