PUPILS at Audley Infants School, Blackburn, feel safer crossing the street, after helping launch a £30,000 Government scheme.
The town is one of 10 local authorities in the North West to receive a share of a £3 million initiative to provide road safety schemes for young pedestrians.
Road safety officer Clare Sackfield, met some of the pupils set to benefit from the scheme. The money will pay for local child pedestrian co-ordinators, who will train and support parent volunteers to educate five to seven-year-olds in key road safety skills at the roadside, rather than in the classroom.
