CONCERN has been expressed about plans for a rooflight window at Spencers Barn in the centre of Hurstwood village.
A ward councillor is worried about the effect on the character of the listed building and Burnley Civic Society has said it is "not happy" with the proposal. and that roof openings should be restricted to the rear.
The application will be decided by Burnley's development control committee on Thursday. The scheme is recommended for approval. The issue is whether moving the rooflight from the back to the front will have a harmful effect on the building's character.
A report to the committee says there are already two rooflights and a stone chimney stack interrupting the roof slope on the East side.
It adds: "It might be argued that another window on the front would further domesticate the appearance of the building and harm the character of the listed building and conservation area.
"On the other hand, it could be said that rooflights are features that might be expected on an agricultural building. "As there are already other features on the roof, one additional window would alter but not harm the character of the building."
