SOUNESS today called on his squad to put some distance between themselves and the bottom six with two impressive performances at Ewood this week.
Rovers' home form has been encouraging so far, holding Manchester United to a 2-2 draw before beating Tottenham 2-1.
And Souness believes that needs to continue if Rovers are to stay out of danger.
"We've got a great chance to get some points on the board with two home games back-to-back," said Souness.
"If you want to do well in this league then you've got to win your home games.
"That means playing as well as we have done so far but we've got to start converting more of our chances."
Elsewhere, Rovers striker James Thomas has joined Bristol Rovers on a week's trial.
Thomas -- who spent a spell on loan with Sheffield United last season -- has failed to force his way into the first team this season.
And if things work out over the next few days then he could link-up with Gerry Francis's men permanently.
"James is currently down at Bristol and he will spend the week there then they'll speak to us," said chief executive John Williams.
Rovers are yet to confirm the date of their third round Worthington Cup tie against Middlesbrough at Ewood.
