Leigh RMI 3 Chester City 0 A SPARKLING performance from young striker Michael Twiss set Leigh RMI on their way to a comfortable victory over Chester City - their second successive Conference win.
The 23-year old former Manchester United star set home pulses racing midway through the first half when he met a nonchalant header from Marcus Hallows, raced away and slotted coolly past Wayne Brown from 18 yards.
His electrifying pace and undoubted composure frustrated an opposition who were playing Third Division football just two years previous, and he confirmed his talent with a second four minutes before the break.
Twiss was released down the right hand side by Neil Fisher, and after cleverly cutting inside Mike Rose, unleashed an unstoppable right foot shot into the top corner.
Chester had started the brighter of the two sides, with manager's son Sam Hill forcing a top class save from Mark Westhead when the ex-Wycombe 'keeper parried his effort round the post.
Chris Scott's short back pass put Westhead under pressure minutes later but David McGiven failed to capitalise when through and David Linighan dragged his 10-yard effort wide of the target.
Leigh sealed their victory with just seven minutes played in the second period.
After displaying chilling speed, Twiss slid the ball into the path of Hallows who snatched his second goal in four days with a simple finish from eight yards.
Twiss left the field to a standing ovation with 11 minutes to play, but the same could not be said of the Chester players and management who were subjected to a despicable tirade of abuse from their own travelling supporters and angry scenes at full time that marred the game as a whole.
RMI climbed up to 16th place in the league with their victory and will play reigning Ryman League Champions Farnborough Town at Hilton Park on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3pm.
