CHRISTINE Chawner, 54, of Anchor Grove, Darwen, died of natural causes which could have been brought on by heavy and prolonged drinking.
An inquest heard that Mrs Chawner suffered heart failure but a post-mortem examination had been carried out because there was no previous history of heart trouble.
The examination revealed previous damage to the heart, which was dilated, the heart muscle was pale and there were signs of fibrosis.
The liver also showed signs of sclerosis and the coroner, Michael Singleton, said prolonged and heavy alcohol consumption could lead to heart problems.
He recorded a verdict of natural causes.
