ROSSENDALE United continued their impressive start to their UniBond Premier Division campaign with another comfortable victory at Gretna last night.

The only thing to take the gloss off the result was the unfortunate injury to Jerome Fitzgerald who had to be left at Carlisle Infirmary overnight with a badly broken arm.

It took league leaders Dale just eight minutes to go in front, Craig Sargeson's delightful chip from 15 yards finding the top corner of the net.

Steve Cunningham was again a constant threat, just failing to get on the end of a Gareth Gardiner cross when a slight touch would have made it 2-0, and he also went close with a header on the first half hour.

The second half saw Dale step up a gear, no doubt determined to take three points following Fitzgerald's injury.

Mattieson pulled off a superb double to save to thwart Paul Lynch, then Jason Heffernan, but he could do nothing on 52 minutes to stop Gareth West's header finding the net.

The home side then had a five minute spell where Dobie hit the bar, and had a goal disallowed, and Errington missed a free header from six yards with the goal at his mercy.

The game was effectively over on 63 minutes as Sargeson was sent clear down the left and he cut in to slot the ball through the keeper's legs for the third - and his sixth of the campaign.

Mark Patterson made it four just five minutes later firing home from 12 yards after Gardiner's cross had again caused mayhem in the Gretna box.

And Cunningham was denied a fifth by Mattieson's flying save as his goal-bound header was pushed wide.
