LANCASTER councillors are to bid for a share of £25 million to help clean up two areas of Morecambe.
The council wants to bring in 11 'environmental wardens', five for the West End of Morecambe and six in the Poulton area.
As well as improving the environment, the wardens would also have a role to play in cutting down on anti-social behaviour and improve community safety.
The Government would provide up to half of the funding if the application was accepted, with £78,000 being added from council funding.
Cabinet member with responsibility for community services, Cllr David Barker, said: "This is very much a response to a community concerns and is welcome progress."
