PLANS for a new mosque in Blackburn are set to be approved tonight .
The Islamic Academy UK has submitted a planning application for land in Moss Street, Blackburn, to be used as the site for a new mosque.
A four-storey residential college is already based on the site near to the River Blakewater.
The proposal being considered tonight consists of a four-storey building which will house a mosque at ground floor and classrooms on the upper three floors, plus a car park.
Four letters of objection have been received by the planning department at the council.
Residents complained that Moss Street is already a street which suffers from a lack of parking, and the new mosque would make the situation worse.
They also point out that the local Territorial Army is also based on the street, as well as a community centre and a garage which repairs old buses -- all of which already make the street congested.
Despite their concerns, councillors sitting on the planning and highways committee are being urged to back the scheme.
