NICK Dougherty's hopes of gaining a European Tour card at the first attempt received a huge boost.
The Shaw Hill player shared the lead in the qualifying school at Cheshire's Carden Park.
Despite the second round being rain interrupted, Dougherty carded a five under par 65 which was a distinct improvement on his par 70 in the first round. He made an impressive start to the second round with three birdies in the opening six holes, and bagged two more after the turn, which prompted the 19-year-old to observe: "I was more comfortable with my game."
