EVENING classes in East Lancs -- from belly dancing to bricklaying -- will be scrutinised by the Adult Learning Inspectorate to determine whether they offer a good standard of teaching and are value for money.
The ALI inspectors will be aiming to ensure that adult learners get the most from their classes and to ensure standards in classrooms and community centres are maintained.
David Sherlock, the ALI's chief inspector, said: "Many people enjoy learning for its own sake, but we want to make sure they receive the same quality of teaching and training as those studying for qualifications.
"Adult and community learning is a huge and diverse sector, with people learning everything from belly dancing to bricklaying, origami and oriental cookery, to highly technical computer skills.
"We will be working closely with providers to ensure learners get the most value from their courses."
