PRIZE pupil Nicola McDougall now has another certificate to frame in her growing gallery of awards.
Nicola, of Summit Close, Fairfield, joined Coney Green High School two years ago, after attending Elms Bank High School in Whitefield.
After overcoming many of the difficulties associated with autism, the inspirational 14-year-old won prizes for public reading and general progress at school last year.
The former Millwood Primary pupil has now been awarded the SPD Trust Fund "Prize for Human Deeds" and a £20 gift voucher, for her determination and positive attitude.
The prize is awarded to a number of children across the borough each year, either for personal achievement against the odds, or caring for others.
The trust was formed in 1996, to celebrate learning, independence of thought and humanitarian deeds. Special needs co-ordinator Mrs Sylvia O'Dwyer said: "Nicola shows a considerable ability and promise, particularly in English lessons, and enjoys being part of mainstream education."
Nicola's mum, Andrea, added: "I'm really amazed at the progress she has made.
"Nicola was given a lot of attention at primary school and, after that, staff at Elms Bank realised the potential that she had.
"It's absolutely fantastic for her and she is very happy now."
