Press Release
EUROPEAN FOOTBALL COMES TO LEYLAND
Nightowls International Leagues
The ever expanding Nightowls International Leagues is coming to Leyland. The Nightowls League which will be based at the synthetic pitch at Runshaw College, is the newest addition to this rapidly growing network of fun and social football leagues.
Last season 250 teams participated in 20 Nightowls Leagues throughout Ireland, in England and in Wales. Nightowls is undertaking an explosive development programme this season which will see Leagues established in most major cities in England, Scotland, Wales and Holland to complement the very well established Irish network. Despite being scattered over a wide area and encompassing a number of diverse groups of people, the players are all held together by two things, a love of football and the Nightowls identity.
Nightowls players come from all walks of life. In any team and in any league you might find a selection of butchers, bakers and candle stick makers together with bankers, lawyers, accountants, shift workers, students, teachers and even a smattering of ex-professional footballers to name but a few categories. Team names such as Eager Beavers, De Gud Tings, S.V. Hangover and The Coffin Dodgers, reflect the fun spirit of the leagues. Be under no illusions though, once the referee has blown his whistle the competitive element comes to the fore.
Each Nightowls League is autonomous and runs its own League, Cup and Challenge Trophys. The winner & runner-up in each Premier League nationwide, is entered into the National play-offs for the Nightowls European Cup. These teams play off against one another in the following season for the honour of being the National Representative. Each of the National Representatives from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales & Holland then progress to play in the Nightowls European Cup, on an all expenses paid weekend in one of the countries.
Nightowls also has a second European competition, called the Nightowls European Challenge Cup. This competition is open to all registered Nightowls teams and is run on an open draw format. Teams initially play-off against opposition from their own League, before progressing to play on a Regional level against other winning teams. By regionalising the competition, teams can minimise the amount of travel involved. The ultimate National Winners from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales & Holland then progress to play in the Nightowls European Challenge Cup, again on an all expenses paid weekend in one of the countries.
Nightowls, with its extensive network of Leagues, teams and contacts, is easily able to arrange friendlies between teams. The Nightowls office is available to make the necessary travel arrangements, for teams who want to visit other areas for a mad weekend and at the same time take in a game of soccer. Alternatively, teams can compete in one of the many International Weekend Tournaments. These two day tournaments sort teams into groups based on their standard of play. Groups are restricted to a maximum of 4 teams. Teams only play 3 matches on a round-Robin basis over the weekend, thereby allowing plenty of time for socialising. Getting the balance right between football and socialising is the key to enjoying a memorable weekend experience.
All Nightowls matches take place on synthetic turf pitches, under floodlighting. Matches are 1 hour in duration and are usually played on midweek nights. The season runs from October to May, with breaks for Christmas, Easter and Bank Holidays built into a fixture list which is issued to all players at the start of the season.
In short, Nightowls provides fun social football to the would bes, could bes and has beens by professionally running amateur soccer leagues. What is more the opportunity is given for people who could only fantasise about competing Internationally to represent their countries in European competition.
