A TEENAGER died after injecting herself with heroin at her family home, an inquest was told.
Charlene Dyson, aged 16, was discovered slumped over the bathroom sink at her Castle Street home in Tyldesley in July this year by her mother, Carole Bannister. She had vomited and a syringe was discovered by her side.
Paramedics were called to the house, but despite repeated attempts they were unable to save her.
The court heard how Charlene had a history of drug abuse despite constant attempts by her family to stop her, which included moving house to get away from friends they believed to be a bad influence.
Her mother said that although Charlene stopped taking heroin for a while, she lapsed and used the drug again.
Dr Stephen Wells gave the cause of death as the toxic affects of morphine.
Sgt Mark Bradley of Greater Manchester Police said an investigation into who supplied Charlene with the drug is on-going.
Coroner Aidan Cotter said: "The deaths keep going up and up. Ten years ago for me to record death by heroin abuse was virtually unheard off. If it was one a year, that was it. I am now dealing with one death by heroin abuse a week and I am sure soon the time will come when it is two a week."
He recorded a verdict of death by heroin abuse.
