GO GREEN with Lancashire County Council and get a free compost bin.
To help reduce the huge amount of rubbish sent to landfill every day, LCC along with HDRA Consultants are implementing the largest free home composting initiative in the UK encouraging householders in Lancashire to compost more.
The project, supported by LCC and the LWS Lancashire Environmental Fund, initially aims to distribute, free of charge, 60,000 home compost bins throughout Lancashire aiming to increase this to 100,000 over three years.
The bins will initially be delivered to households throughout the county who have received a letter inviting them to apply for a free compost bin which will be delivered at no cost to their home.
As well as providing bins the project will include road shows, a quarterly newsletter for composting householders, workshops and training for community volunteers. Project liaison officer Holly Tiffen said: "Home composting enables householders to turn rubbish into something useful that can be used in the garden -- the ultimate form of recycling!
"By making compost at home you can save money on expensive garden products and improve the soil for growing your plants."
