THE curtain came down on the 2001 Redmayne Bentley Bolton Association cricket season at Higham Park on Saturday in the most disappointing of ways.
Atherton's game against A&T was restricted to 34 overs of the A&T innings before torrential rain washed out any further play and the match as abandoned with both sides taking six points.
A&T's score at that point stood at 84-7, after being 32-6. The only batsman to get into double figures was Paul Bennett with an excellently struck 40.
For the home side, Greg Dimery took 4-28 from 13 overs, Ian Nuttall 2-16 from 11 and Phil Wakefield 1-19 from five, Atherton finishing the season as runners-up to champions Walshaw.
It has been a highly-successful first season at the club for Aussie professional Dimery who has proved popular with the players, committee and members alike.
His record in all matches stands at 1475 runs at an average of 77.63 and 91 wickets at an average of 13.40. He has also taken 24 catches.
The next big date at Higham Park is the junior presentation night to be held at the club on September 24 at 7.30pm. The guest of honour is Lancashire CC opening batsman Mark Chilton.
