ARGENTO MALBEC 2000, £4.99, Tesco MALBEC is the dark grape famous in France for the "black wine" produced around Cahors but today it is much better known for producing Argentina's best red wines. This one is a cracker from vineyards fed, we are told, by water flowing down from the perpetual snows 15,000 feet above in the Andes. Rich, plummy, deep red, smooth, satisfying and really fantastic value. TRULLI DRY MUSCAT, 2000, £3.97, Tesco MOST people will associate Muscat with sweet, pudding-style wines but this Trulli is truly different! From Puglia in the heel of Italy comes a light, dry, white that has hints of lemon and lime and is really grapey. Well chilled, this is an ideal aperitif or, as the label suggests, it should go well with spicy or oriental food. Yet another successful collaboration by remarkable Aussie flying winemaker Kym Milne.
