WAXWORK models of former Rovers idol Alan Shearer and Burnley FC hero Ian Wright both notched up results and were snapped up at auction yesterday
But a similar model of Blackburn Rovers striker Mark Hughes failed to sell!
Ian Wright's life-size figure went for £5,640 -- marginally above the £5,000 starting price -- while Alan Shearer was bought for an undisclosed sum after the actual auction. Neither buyers have been revealed by auctioneers Sotheby's, who put the players under the hammer.
Arsenal's Tony Adams proved to be the snatch of the day when he went for the princely sum of £9,400 -- the highest of the 11 players on the transfer list.
But Welsh manager and Rovers striker Mark Hughes, who, like his team-mates, had first refusal on the models valued between £5,000 and £10,000, was left out in the cold when no bids were put in. His model, made from fibreglass with wax head and hands, will join the rest of the unsold squad on the subs' bench and be returned to the vendor.
