IT was a the same old story for battling Colne as they went out of the FA Vase in the second qualifying round against more senior opponents from the north east.
John Lister's men put in another encouraging display but had nothing to show for it come the final whistle.
"It was a scrappy game with few chances for either side," admitted Lister. "But we can be pleased with our performance.
"The spirit in the dressing room is good and I am sure we will get some reward if we keep working hard for one another."
The only goal of the game came five minutes before the break when a deflected cross looped the the visitor's centre forward who flicked it into the top corner.
Colne striker Paul Files went close with a shot from the edge of the area but in a typically hard-fought cup tie Colne couldn't force an equaliser.
RESULT: COLNE...0 WHITLEY BAY...1
