COUNTY Councillor Alan Whittaker's triple speeding conviction, after being caught on the same camera (LET, September 15), was extremely concerning, not because he was speeding, but because his observational skills are clearly so lacking that he failed to spot the same camera on three occasions.

This gives an insight into why he is so keen on the use of such devices. He completely fails to understand the anticipation and planning skills other drivers use to travel safely at sensible speeds for the conditions (which may or may not be within limits).

Drivers like this should be forced to take retraining. That would be a far better way of dealing with the problems on the roads than the relentless persecution of millions of safe observant drivers, which seems to be about the limit of imagination of local councils when it comes to road safety issues.
