AFTER spending their whole lives in Blackburn Donna and Cliff Garrett are to pull their last pints in the Lion and leave the town for a new life in Chorley.
The couple, who held a leaving party on Saturday, will depart tomorrow for the Queens, Preston Road, after two years in their current watering hole.
But first they have bags and bags of pennies to count which have been accumulated over a number of years - both in the Lion, Wensley Road, and the pair's previous pub the Cheatam Arms which is just across the road.
The coppers were in neat piles behind the bar but it was decided they may not make the journey to Chorley so are being counted up to donate to the victims' families and survivors of the New York disaster.
More than £900 has already been donated to charity by the pub and it is hoped that the total in this collection will be at least £200.
Speaking about the move landlady Donna Garrett, 36, said: "We've been here for a while now and are looking for a new challenge.
"We will really miss the locals though. Many followed us here from the previous pub and they say they will come and visit us."
