SKIPPER Steve Davis is confident that the Clarets can get back to winning ways when Crewe Alexandra visit Turf Moor tonight.
And he is hoping he will not end the match playing as an emergency centre forward as he did at Carrow Road on Saturday.
"The gaffer pushed everyone forward and we had a couple of chances to level," he said. "They were hanging on at the end, a bit like we were at Birmingham."
After the excitement of the last few games a regulation victory would be nice but Davis knows that has not been the way of things this season.
"I am not sure why we have had so many exciting games but it is brilliant because the lads are so full of confidence," he said.
"We have scored 24 goals but could have had more. It is also great that the goals have been spread about the team. But I felt we always tried to attack last season even though the gaffer has had a reputation of going for one-nillers.
"We always had an attacking philosophy and now we are making up for not scoring a lot of goals last season."
While the goals have been flying it at the other end, Davis admits that he would love to walk off the park tonight with a clean sheet for the Clarets.
"We have not had as many clean sheets as we would like but it does not matter so much if you are scoring so many at the other end, winning games 5-2 and 3-2" he said. "But as a defender you always want to keep the opposition out."
And Davis has another target for the season, making sure that the Clarets never suffer two defeats on the trot.
A miserable run of five successive defeats last December ultimately denied the Clarets a place in the play-offs and Davis said: "I think you should try and go through the whole season without ever losing two games on the trot.
"Crewe have had a few bad results this season but they won at the weekend and that means they will be coming to us with a bit of confidence. We know they are a good footballing side."
But this is the best start to the season that the 32-year-old Davis has ever been involved in and he is determined to see it continue with another three points tonight.
"It is very nice looking at Teletext after a game and seeing you are top of the table," he smiled. "We will keep our feet on the ground but long may it continue."
