DARWEN firefighters are offering people in the area the chance to have a free home fire safety check.
Firefighters will provide free smoke alarms and fit them where necessary as well as offering life saving advice. They will also make a fire escape plan for you and your family and offer practical advice on identifying fire hazards in the home.
If you would like free advice on making your fire action plan contact Darwen Fire Station on 01254 702288.
Darwen firefighters are taking part in a county wide fund-raising walk by the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service next month to raise cash for family members of firefighters who were killed in the New York disaster.
Firefighters will be out on the main streets in Darwen at around 5.30pm on Sunday, October 7 with buckets for people to put money in.
Station Commander at Darwen, Steve Cope said: "It just brought it home to us, 300 firefighters were killed in the disaster, the cash will go to their wives and orphans."
